The second outlines the text in terms of the one tested, dividing it into four: first, hearing the first half-verse, joy arises in his mind; second, from "then rising from his seat, lifting his hair with his hands" onward, searching for the speaker; third, from "I then further said to the rākṣasa: 'If you finish reciting the verse, I will become your disciple for all my life'" onward, seeking the latter half-verse; fourth, from "at that time, I deeply contemplated" onward, abandoning his body for the sake of the verse. In the first [part], it first explains Śakra speaking the verse, and subsequently explains the bodhisattva feeling joy in his mind upon hearing the verse. In Śakra's speech, it first explains that Śakra manifested as a rākṣasa, went to the Snow Mountains, and devised an expedient means to speak; from "eloquence" onward, it directly explains speaking the verse; from "having spoken this half" onward, he stood still so as to be seen. In the joy upon hearing the verse, there is first the literal teaching, next the presentation of eight analogies, and the subsequent application may be known [from the text].
