三見受苦悲憐如子，先喻、次合。「菩薩亦爾」合前父母，「見一闡提」合所愛子，「墮於地獄」合捨終亡，「願與俱生」合與併命。「何以」下釋，「是故」下結。

Third, seeing them undergo suffering, one pities them like a child: first the simile, next the application. "The bodhisattva is also like this" applies to the preceding parents; "seeing an icchantika" applies to the beloved child; "falling into hell" applies to abandoning life and dying; "vows to be born together with them" applies to joining life with them. From "Why is this?" onward is the explanation; from "For this reason" onward is the conclusion.
