In the second clause, "a person" allegorizes the bodhisattva of noble conduct; having long drifted in saṃsāra is called "coming from afar"; lacking joy to sustain oneself is called "hungry and empty"; weary and exhausted from loathing suffering is called "emaciated and weakened"; hearing of the abundance of pleasant matters in that fruit is called "seeing that the food was complete in color, fragrance, and taste"; inquiring into what is spoken is called "pointing to it and saying, 'What thing is this?'"
