In the third clause, "The owner of the food answered, 'This is superior food, complete in color, fragrance, and taste'" praises the superiority of birth; from "If one eats this" downward clarifies the benefit with respect to the person: a person receiving that birth is called "eating this food"; "gaining color and gaining strength" explains that it has joy; "able to eliminate hunger and thirst" reveals that it has no suffering; having many gods and humans as a retinue is called "gaining sight of the gods"; prior to this, "praising birth has only one affliction, namely the end of life" reveals that it entails death.
