Regarding the absence of false speech, the single gate of "true words" explains that it corresponds to reality; the single gate of "subtle and wondrous" explains that it can reveal reality. The seven phrases beginning with "skillful in phrases" extensively clarify the former subtlety, while the final stanza extensively clarifies the former truth. In clarifying the subtlety, "skillful in phrases" constitutes one gate, meaning the words conform to the teaching; "skillful in meaning" constitutes another gate, meaning the words can reveal the meaning. "To deeply and secretly conceal nothing, displaying it for the multitude" expands on the former good meaning. "Taking all extensive speech and summarizing it for the multitude" expands on the former responsive phrasing. "Being complete in such speech, well able to cure sentient beings" concludes and praises this as a whole. In extensively explaining truth, "If there are sentient beings who hear these words" refers to hearing the aforementioned words of skillful phrasing and meaning. "Whether believing or disbelieving, they definitely know it is spoken by the Buddha" reveals its true meaning: because sentient beings differ in believing or slandering the Dharma, there is both believing and disbelieving. King Ajātaśatru states on his own: "I now definitely know this is spoken by the Buddha; it is utterly free from falsehood."
