Within the first part, it first clarifies that the dharma of nirvāṇa is free from marks and difficult to hear. As for the Tathāgata's nirvāṇa being "neither existent nor non-existent," the Buddha's Great Nirvāṇa does not have saṃsāra, nor does it lack manifold virtues. "Not conditioned" means it is free from arising, abiding, and ceasing. "Not unconditioned" means its wondrous functionings are abundantly conferred. "Not with defilements" means the afflictions and troubles have completely vanished. "Not without defilements" means it manifests the arising of various afflictions. The statement "not form" means it is free from impermanent form. "Not non-form" means it attains the vajra body. The statement "not name" means the path of speech is cut off. "Not non-name" means the resonance of its virtue spreads far and wide. The statement "not mark" means it cuts off and leaves behind the ten marks. "Not non-mark" means it is fully endowed with the major and minor marks, and furthermore, manifesting various forms in accordance with sentient beings is called "not non-mark." The statement "not existent" means it wondrously transcends the three realms of existence. "Not non-existent" means its real virtues are not absent. The statement "not a thing" means it has no dwelling or abode. "Not a non-thing" means it has a wondrous pure land. "Neither cause nor fruit" means suffering and accumulation are forever gone. Furthermore, because the Tathāgata truly realizes equality, there is neither cause nor fruit. The statement "not relative" means true realization transcends opposition. "Not non-relative" means it speaks only by relying on conditions. The statement "not bright" means the mind of conditional contemplation has ceased. The statement "not dark" means dark hindrances are forever eliminated. The statement "not emerged" means it does not abandon the world. "Not non-emerged" means it attains the Great Nirvāṇa. The statement "not permanent" means it flows and turns in accord with transformations. "Not impermanent" means its essence is eternally unchanging. The statement "not severed" means it constantly acts amid defilements. "Not non-severed" means it forever severs all fetters. The statement "not having a beginning" means its nature has arisen from antiquity. The statement "not having an end" means it has no final end. "Neither past," etc., means its essence transcends the three times. "Neither aggregate, sense-base, nor realm" means it is beyond the twelve links of dependent origination and its essence is devoid of the mark of life. "Nor not aggregate," etc., means it manifests existence in accord with transformations. Below, it generally concludes that such dharmas as these were never heard in the past, but are now heard.
