上來一番上下通論，自下一番簡勝去劣，先明近友，文別有二：一明佛菩薩以為善友、二「以是親友因緣」已下明近有益。

The one round above discusses universally from top to bottom; the following round selects the superior and excludes the inferior. It first clarifies drawing near to a friend, and the text specifically has two parts: first, clarifying that buddhas and bodhisattvas are the good friends; second, from 'Through the cause and condition of such close friends...' onward, clarifying that drawing near has benefits.
