第二番中，初先法說，「以是義故十二因緣名佛性」者乘前顯後，以前所生因緣觀智得為種故，能生因緣，名為佛性，性猶種也。次以喻顯，「譬如胡瓜名為熱病」立喻顯法。「何以故」下釋喻顯法，能與熱病作因緣故名為熱病。下合顯法，「因緣如是」，能生向前因緣觀智故名佛性。

In the second turn, first it is explained via doctrine: "For this reason the twelve links of dependent origination are called the buddha-nature" draws upon what precedes to reveal what follows; because the contemplative wisdom of dependent origination produced by what precedes can serve as a seed, that which can produce dependent origination is called the buddha-nature, "nature" being akin to "seed". Next it is revealed via an analogy: "Just as a melon is called a feverish illness" sets up an analogy to reveal the doctrine. "Why?" and below explains the analogy to reveal the doctrine: because it can act as the cause and condition for a feverish illness, it is called a feverish illness. Below it is applied to reveal the doctrine: "Dependent origination is likewise"; because it can produce the aforementioned contemplative wisdom of dependent origination, it is called the buddha-nature.
