From "Although Sunakkhatta entered the Buddha-Dharma" onward, he leaps ahead to answer the sixth [phrase], clarifying that he himself possesses compassion. In this there are three parts: first, clarifying that he himself possesses compassion; second, from "If originally greedy..." onward, displaying the depth of his own compassion; third, from "My disciples..." onward, adducing others' shared pity to reveal the reality of his own compassion. In the first part there are again three: first, clarifying Sunakkhatta's loss of wholesome dharmas, first by doctrine and then by metaphor; second, from "Furthermore, just as..." onward, severing and destroying the dharmakāya, first by metaphor and then by application. In the metaphor, "slaying oneself" is one's own mind destroying good, and "being killed by a rākṣasa" is an evil companion destroying good. The text of the application can be understood. Third, clarifying the Buddha's compassion: "out of pity," his words are filled with grief and lamentation, "always saying that Sunakkhatta is exceedingly negligent." In the second part, which clarifies the depth of his own compassion, first is the metaphor, next the application, and below the conclusion, which can be understood. In the third part, which reveals the reality of his own compassion, first is the doctrine, and then the metaphor.
