Regarding what is recollected, first it lists ten appellations and virtues; from 'permanent and unalterable' downward, it raises the virtues to reveal the names; from 'Why is he named Tathāgata?' downward, it explains the virtues based on the names. In the first part, 'Tathāgata down to the World-Honoured One' are the shared names of Buddhas. All names have shared and specific [forms], and the Buddha is also like this: Śākyamuni, Maitreya, Amitāyus, and so on are his specific names; the ten including Tathāgata are his shared names. Manifested marks must be distinguished, so specific names are established; the real virtues are uniformly identical, so shared designations are established. The shared virtues are immeasurable; names applied based on virtues are likewise limitless. Here, relying on a single approach, we briefly discuss ten kinds.
