第二、就今昔相決難。今昔皆涅槃，應皆可翻。然今不可翻，可是涅槃；昔可翻，昔應非涅槃。昔不具足涅槃，今具足不可翻；昔不具足則可翻者，則難今具足可是涅槃，昔不具足應非涅槃。

Second, the objection of resolving the present against the past: Both present and past are nirvāṇa, so both should be translatable. Yet if the present is untranslatable, it can be nirvāṇa; the past was translatable, so the past should not be nirvāṇa. If in the past it was incomplete nirvāṇa, while now it is complete and untranslatable; and if because in the past it was incomplete it could be translated, then challenging this: the present being complete can be nirvāṇa, but the past being incomplete should not be nirvāṇa.
