第一授記意者，如來授記，自有五意：一大師遠照、二因必得果故、三令他人起敬故、四不捨眾生故、五行位已高故，故須授記也。

First, regarding the intention of the vyākaraṇa, the Tathāgata conferring a vyākaraṇa naturally has five intentions: first, the Great Master's far-reaching illumination; second, because a cause inevitably obtains its fruit; third, to cause other people to give rise to respect; fourth, because of not abandoning sentient beings; fifth, because the stage of practice is already high. Hence, a vyākaraṇa must be conferred.
