問：預造彌勒當成佛形者，從何境生福？答：一云從未來境生福，以信未成故。若造佛及普菩薩形造者，有二義可解也。今云不然，去來其現在所隔，是故從彌勒本地生福。

Question: When one in advance fashions an image of Maitreya when he shall become a buddha, from which object is merit generated? Answer: One view says that merit is generated from a future object, because faith has not yet been completed. If fashioning images of a buddha and universal bodhisattvas, there are two senses that can be understood. Now it is said that this is not so: past and future are separated by the present; therefore, merit is generated from Maitreya's original ground.
