Second, regarding the explanation of the title, there are three pairs: first, the pair of the expounder and the expounded, where the Buddha's exposition is the expounder, and the Descent Sūtra of Maitreya is the expounded. Second, the pair of the recipient and the received, where Maitreya is the recipient, and descending to be born is the received. Third, the pair of the signified and the signifier, where Maitreya's descending to be born is the signified, and sūtra is the signifier. Overall, although there are eight aspects, the latter seven aspects are all in the human realm; in contrast to heaven, they are all called 'descending to be born'. Because it extensively discusses the holy transformative deeds of descending to be born, it is called the Descent Sūtra, which is a tatpuruṣa compound.
