問：此外果唯增上果，云何此中名報應？答：勝果酬因，故名為報；遂其所求，稱為應。亦可彌勒權門所應，故曰應也。勝妙者，對前勝因顯果故。

Question: These external fruits are only dominant fruits; why are they called 'retribution and response' here? Answer: An excellent fruit requiting a cause is therefore called 'retribution'; fulfilling what was sought is called 'response.' Alternatively, it is called 'response' because it is what Maitreya's expedient gate responds to. 'Exquisite and marvelous' indicates the fruition in contrast to the aforementioned excellent causes.
