什曰：為下欲修淨國及往生者現其剎也。不遙現而接來者，將顯維摩神力故也。即事則情悅而悟深，故舉令現此事耳。肇曰：既覩大眾渴仰之情，將顯淨名不思議德，故告令現本國。

[Kumāra]jīva says: For those below who wish to cultivate a pure land and be reborn there, he manifests that realm. Instead of manifesting it from afar, he brings it here, because he intends to demonstrate Vimalakīrti's spiritual power. Through tangible facts, people's minds are delighted and their awakening deepens; hence he directs him to manifest this event. [Seng]zhao says: Having seen the yearning of the great assembly, and wishing to demonstrate the inconceivable virtue of the Pure Name, he told him to manifest his original land.
