[Seng]zhao says: In life one follows false views; in death one falls into the evil destinies. [Dao]sheng says: Having taken them as teachers, when they fall into the three evil destinies, one cannot but follow them in their fall. If one goes forth by conforming to the principle of taking the six masters as teachers, then though there are three evil destinies, there is no violation in falling into them. Another edition reads: 'Not seeing the Buddha, down to following the six masters in that into which they fall.' [Kumāra]jīva says: Because he saw distinctions, [Vimalakīrti] instructs him to cultivate equal vision. If one can see no superiority of the Buddha over the six masters, go forth through them, and be one with them without destroying differentiated characteristics, only then may one take food.
