Second, using the threefold contemplation to explain Vimalakīrti as meaning pure, stainless, and renown: the mind arising from conditions of the layman Pure Name and the principle of the three truths are inherently ever brilliant and clear, which is designated as 'pure'; without severing the obstacles of delusion regarding the three truths, he can give rise to the clarity and liberation of the threefold contemplation and three wisdoms in a single mind, and though this clarity and liberation dwell within the three delusions, they are not defiled by the three delusions, hence called 'stainless'; the three wisdoms in a single mind accord with the principle of the three truths, their great function without bounds, transforming in accord with capacities, hence called 'renown'; therefore he is called 'pure, stainless, and renown'.
