答曰：若斷結，即不得受生化物。菩薩觀無常伏結，令諸煩惱脂消，用清淨心修行六度，令諸功德肥也。
Answer: If he were to sever the fetters, he could not take birth to transform beings. The bodhisattva contemplates impermanence to subdue the fetters, causing the fat of the defilements to melt away, and uses a pure mind to practice the six pāramitās, causing all merits to grow plump.
