7.10

六生兜率陀天者，捨閻浮之報，上生此天為諸天人師。於在此天用三種念處修八勝處，為欲伏結清淨，下閻浮提，神通變化降伏天魔，四辨說法破諸外道，及度一切眾生也。此由屬中忍之位。問曰：菩薩何意從初發心伏結至此，伏而不斷也？答曰：若斷結，即不得受生化物。觀無常伏結，令諸煩惱脂消。用清淨心修行六度，令諸功德肥也。

Sixth, being born in the Tuṣita Heaven: having relinquished the retribution of Jambudvīpa, he is born above into this heaven to be a teacher to gods and humans. While in this heaven, he utilizes the three types of mindfulness to cultivate the eight abodes of mastery, in order to purify and subdue fetters, descend to Jambudvīpa, use supernatural powers and transformations to subdue heavenly demons, use the four unhindered eloquence to preach the Dharma and defeat all externalists, and deliver all sentient beings. This still belongs to the position of the middle stage of forbearance. Question: Why has the Bodhisattva subdued the fetters from his initial aspiration up to this point, subduing them without severing them? Answer: If he severed the fetters, he would not be able to take rebirth to transform beings. Contemplating impermanence subdues the fetters, causing the fat of the various afflictions to melt away. Using a pure mind to cultivate the six pāramitās causes the various merits to fatten.
