Third, regarding differentiating the wisdom of conceivable and inconceivable liberation in terms of severance and non-severance: if one attains liberation by severing afflictions, it is conceivable liberation; therefore this sūtra says: 'For people of overweening pride, the Buddha severed lust, anger, and delusion, calling it liberation.' If one attains liberation without severing afflictions, it is inconceivable liberation; therefore this sūtra says: 'Without severing delusion and craving, one gives rise to clarity and liberation. Through the marks of the five heinous deeds, one attains liberation, yet it is neither bondage nor liberation.'
