Question: The scattered explanations in sūtras and treatises may indeed be as stated above, but we do not see the four lands presented together in a single place. Answer: Translations of sūtras and treatises to this [land] were inherently not numerous, and those who study and read them are not fully familiar with everything; why must there be no text in which the four lands appear together? Exactly as in this sūtra when answering the elder's son, that is precisely its meaning. The text states: "In accordance with the sentient beings to be transformed, he takes a buddha-land; in accordance with the sentient beings to be disciplined, he takes a buddha-land; in accordance with the land through which sentient beings should enter the Buddha's wisdom, [he takes a buddha-land]; in accordance with the land through which sentient beings should arouse bodhisattva roots, [he takes a buddha-land]." If matched with the four lands, they correspond perfectly. Since the names are different, the Buddha's intent is difficult to fathom. Below, in matching the text, it will be explained separately.
