問：華嚴圓頓，何得學者呵令轉教？答：利根得悟，豈更須呵，但神根劣者須別接引，若封教不移，失華嚴正意，故須呵彈，還入華嚴圓頓法界海也。或雖稟圓頓，須呵如前。是則彈呵失華嚴正意之滯，非是彈呵頓教法輪。

Question: The Avataṃsaka is perfect and sudden; how can practitioners be rebuked and caused to transform their teaching? Answer: When those of sharp faculties attain awakening, why would they need to be rebuked further? But those whose spiritual faculties are inferior must be separately received and guided; if they cling to the teaching without shifting, they lose the correct intent of the Avataṃsaka, and therefore must be rebuked and challenged so that they return and enter the ocean of the dharmadhātu of the Avataṃsaka's perfect and sudden [teaching]. Or, even if they receive the perfect and sudden, they must be rebuked as described above. Thus the rebuke is for the stagnation of losing the Avataṃsaka's correct intent; it is not rebuking the Dharma wheel of the sudden teaching.
