5.58

「優婆離」下，二、奉辭不堪。文為四：一正辭不堪、二述不堪之由、三述被呵之事、四結成不堪。初文者，良以往昔判斷不明，致被呵折，豈堪傳如來旨也。

From "Upāli" down, second is respectfully declining as incompetent. The text has four parts: first, directly declining as incompetent; second, recounting the reason for his incompetence; third, recounting the event of being rebuked; fourth, concluding his incompetence. As for the first part: indeed, because in the past his judgment was not clear and led to his being rebuked and refuted, how could he be competent to convey the Tathāgata's decree?
