5.77

「羅睺羅」下，二、奉辭不堪。文為四：一正辭不堪、二述不堪之由、三正述被呵、四結成不堪。初文者，良以往昔為長者子說出家功德，被呵無答，豈堪傳旨。

From "Rāhula..." down: second, respectfully declining as not competent. The text has four parts: first, directly declining as not competent; second, relating the reasons for not being competent; third, directly relating the rebuke; fourth, concluding his lack of competence. As for the first passage, it is truly because in the past, when he spoke of the merit of leaving home for the sons of elders, he was rebuked and had no answer; how could he be competent to convey the instruction?
