Third, explaining general and specific: The two illnesses of cause and fruit each have general and specific. In causal illness: the four divisions are general; the ten unwholesome deeds, the four grave offenses, and so forth are specific. In fruitional illness: the four great elements and four sufferings are general; an increase or decrease of the four great elements, or an increase of the four sufferings of birth and so forth, up to the heavy sufferings of the three wretched realms, are all specific illnesses in the fruit. Because the cause has general and specific, the fruit has general and specific. If in the cause it is solely general, at the time of the fruit it is also like this. If the general is strong and the specific weak, or the general is weak and the specific strong, at the time of the fruit it is also like this. Cause and fruit mutually accomplish each other; verifying it, there is no error.
