6.63

「爾時」下，六、受女說法調伏魔心，是故受女。益諸女故，應須說法。文為二：一勸發心、二勸修行。發心是目、修行是足，目足備故入清涼池，是以先勸發心後當修行。如應說法者，隨四機緣令各發心。

From "At that time" onward, sixth, he receives the women and expounds the Dharma to tame the māra's mind; it was for this reason that he received the women. In order to benefit the women, he needed to expound the Dharma. The text has two parts: first, urging them to generate the aspiration [for awakening]; second, urging them to cultivate practice. Generating the aspiration is the eyes, and cultivating practice is the feet; having both eyes and feet complete, one enters the pool of refreshing cool. Therefore, he first urges the generation of the aspiration, and subsequently they are to cultivate practice. Regarding "expounding the Dharma as was fitting": according to the four types of capacities and conditions, he caused each of them to generate the aspiration.
