"Lightning God" (Vidyuddeva): contemplating the heaven of the primary meaning, giving rise to the Lightning God Samādhi, he is named from seeing the principle. "Clarity and non-clarity (ignorance) are two": non-clarity is clarity itself, therefore it is said that the twelve links of dependent origination are called the Buddha-nature. The Buddha-nature is clarity itself, so it is said that sentient beings' Buddha-nature is as bright as the sun, but because afflictions obscure it, it is as dark as lacquer. The *Nirvāṇa Sūtra* states: "The nature of clarity and non-clarity is nondual; this nondual nature is the real nature, and the real nature is the Buddha-nature." There are three kinds of clarity: the clarity of a bodhisattva is nirvāṇa; the clarity of a buddha is the buddha-eye; the clarity of non-clarity is ultimate emptiness. Because it is empty, how could there be any difference between clarity and non-clarity? Because difference and non-difference are empty, and because of emptiness, one enters the Dharma door of nonduality.
