From "Thus" to "the Buddha-dharma": third, concluding the establishment of the place of awakening. If taken as Vimalakīrti accomplishing the perfections above and converting sentient beings, then each raising of a foot and lowering of a foot eliminates falsehood and reveals the real; this is indeed coming from the place of awakening—how could it be coming from the place where the Buddha attained the Way? If interpreted as the abode of the initial resolve, when the bodhisattva of the initial mind corresponds to the perfections, converts sentient beings, and eliminates falsehood to reveal the real, contemplation is constantly present before them with each raising and lowering of a foot; this is indeed coming from the place of awakening, and this is likewise true up to the tenth ground. If interpreted in terms of the disciples of the ten faiths and the five grades, if they constantly practice this contemplation and convert sentient beings without losing mindfulness, then with each raising and lowering of a foot they all come from the place of awakening, fully equipped with all buddha-dharmas. The Lotus Sūtra says: "One should know that this person has already proceeded to the place of awakening."
