二、有餘，二：初、辨相。文中先解有餘義，次解方便義。通惑雖除，餘別惑猶在，故名有餘。「七種生死」者，一分段，謂三界果報。二流來，謂迷真之初。三反出，謂背妄之始。四方便，謂入滅二乘。五因緣，謂初地已上。六有後，謂第十地。七無後，謂金剛心。

Second, [the Land] with Remainder, in two parts: First, distinguishing its characteristics. In the text, he first explains the meaning of "with remainder," and next explains the meaning of "expedient means." Although common defilements are eliminated, the remaining distinct defilements still persist, hence it is called "with remainder." Regarding the "seven kinds of birth-and-death": First, fragmentary [birth-and-death], referring to the retributions of the three realms. Second, flowing forth, referring to the beginning of delusion regarding the true. Third, turning outward, referring to the start of turning one's back on the false. Fourth, expedient means, referring to the two vehicles entering extinction. Fifth, causes and conditions, referring to the first bhūmi and above. Sixth, having a sequel, referring to the tenth bhūmi. Seventh, without sequel, referring to the adamantine mind.
