Third, resolving the objection that the middle nine chapters lack the words "Buddha Land", in two parts: First, raising the objection. Jingxi states: The beginning is the Buddha Land, and the end refers to Āmrapālī's garden; the previous question still conceded a small part to it, hence saying "it is scarcely worth speaking of". It is because the answer merely used the causal practice to answer the question, and that practice was still too general to resolve doubts. Now, within the nine chapters, two meanings fail: first, it is not spoken by the Buddha; second, there is no name of a land. Yet Jingming spoke: which one is the circumstantial [reward]? Second, answering and resolving, in two parts: First, citing the text on the Buddha Land. Second, from "Jingming…" downward, analogizing with the nine chapters. Jingxi states: The intention of the answer is that one follows meaning, not words; the principle transcends ordinary conventions. How could one cling to the name of a land and abandon the exposition of expedient means? Therefore, from here down to "vividly clear", such is the matter.
