Provisional and real are the contemplative mind of the ultimate person; real and conventional are the marvelous objects of all the nobles. Above, we have briefly clarified the two wisdoms; now we must discuss the real and conventional. If the root of the real and conventional is established, the branch of the provisional and real will naturally be rectified. Therefore, twelve gates are opened to examine their success and failure: 1. Gate of nature and provisionality; 2. Gate of existence and non-existence; 3. Gate of having a root and lacking a root; 4. Gate of manifest and unmanifest; 5. Gate of principle and teaching; 6. Gate of spoken and unspoken; 7. Gate of shallow and deep; 8. Gate of within and outside the principle; 9. Gate of lacking fixed nature; 10. Gate of mutual dependence; 11. Gate of eliminating success and failure; 12. Gate of essence and function.
