Second, verifying the merit of hearing the sūtra. In accordance with the previous three teachings, seeking above and transforming below can also be called practicing Dharma offerings; however, because they are biased and gradual, they take many kalpas. Hearing this sūtra once, one instantly penetrates the wonderful nature, and one encompasses all—this is called true Dharma offering. Once perfect awakening has arisen, all Buddhas of the three periods of time receive offerings; one is able to know the profound spheres of practice of all Buddhas, and the three bodies are instantly revealed. Now, if the ten thousand devaputras coming here to hear this sūtra could not fulfill the four vows and desires, how could they receive prophecies of attaining Buddhahood? This proves that what was spoken in the previous chapter is not in vain.
