Sūtra: At that time, the Four Heavenly Kings addressed the Buddha once more, saying: "World-Honoured One! This Suvarṇaprabhāsottamasūtra is capable of accomplishing such immeasurable merits in the future and the present. Therefore, if a king of men is able to hear this wondrous sūtra, he has already planted roots of goodness in the presence of hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of immeasurable buddhas. We shall protect and be mindful of that king of men. Furthermore, because we see the benefit of immeasurable blessed merit, when we, the Four Kings, and the rest of our retinues, the immeasurable hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of spirits, see in our own palaces the supernatural transformation of this canopy of clouds of various perfumes and incenses, we shall conceal ourselves without manifesting our bodies for the sake of listening to the Dharma, and shall arrive at the clear, pure, and adornment-decorated palace where that king resides, the place where the Dharma is expounded. And so on up to the Brahmā Palace, Śakra, the goddess Sarasvatī, the goddess Mahāśrī, the earth spirit Dṛḍhā, the great general Saṃjñāna, the spirits of the twenty-eight classes of yakṣas, Maheśvara, the secret master Vajrapāṇi, the great general Māṇibhadra, Mother Hārītī with her five hundred followers, the nāga king of Lake Anavatapta, the nāga kings of the great ocean, and immeasurable hundreds of thousands of myriads of koṭis of nayutas of gods and yakṣas—assemblies such as these will all refrain from showing their bodies for the sake of listening to the Dharma, and will arrive at that king of men's excellent palace, at the adorned high seat where the Dharma is expounded. World-Honoured One! We Four Kings and the rest of our retinues, the yakṣas and all the spirits, shall with single-mindedness together be good spiritual friends to that king of men. Because this supreme donor of the great Dharma satisfies us with the taste of amṛta, we therefore protect this king, remove his adversities and troubles, cause him to obtain peace and stability, and cause all bad disasters and anomalies in his palace, cities, and realm to be completely eliminated."
