Sūtra: 'O Devī! At that time, the guild-master's son walked around the four sides of the pool observing them, and those fish also followed him along the bank. The guild-master's son then further thought: "Why do the fish follow along with me? They must be tormented by the fire of hunger and wish to seek food from me again. I should give it to them now." At that time, the guild-master's son Jalavāhana told his son: "Take the strongest elephant, return swiftly to our home, and inform your grandfather, the guild-master, to collect whatever edible food is in the house, even the portions for our parents' meals and the portions for wives, children, and servants, and bring it all here at once." At that time, having received their father's instruction, the two sons mounted the strongest elephant and went swiftly home. Arriving at their grandfather's place, they explained the matter as described above, collected all the edible food in the house, placed it upon the elephant, and hurriedly returned to their father at the side of the pool. At that time, Jalavāhana saw his sons coming, and his body and mind leaped with joy. He then took the food and scattered it everywhere across the pool; having obtained the food, the fish were all fully sated.'
