Below is the fifth major section, sacrificing his body to bring rescue. In the text there are four [parts]: First, traversing the path to approach the tigress. Second, from "stripped off his clothes" onward, giving rise to preliminary upāya. Third, from "made this vow" onward, giving rise to bodhicitta; the first two lines are general, the latter six lines are specific. Among the specific ones, the first two lines are the mind of revulsion toward the conditioned, the next two lines are the mind of seeking bodhi, and the latter two lines are the mind of benefiting sentient beings. Fourth, from "Having spoken these words, the prince" onward, directly giving up his body and life. Herein there are further six [parts]: One, throwing his body down to feed the tigress. Two, from "Due to the... of the Bodhisattva" onward, the tigress being unable to eat. Three, from "Seeing this, the Bodhisattva" onward, falling from the high cliff for this sake. Four, from "He further had this thought" onward, further considering the weakness of the tigress. Five, from "He immediately arose to search for a knife" onward, again giving rise to an upāya. Six, from "gradually approached the side of the tigress" onward, shedding blood so that she could eat.
