In the verse, the first four lines praise the above characteristics of transcending dhyāna; the middle four lines praise the above four fruits. "Confusion" uses the great to reprove the small, meaning that the Hīnayāna grasping at the characteristic of nirvāṇa is also a confusion of the mind. In the last four lines, "the meditator, dhyāna, and conditions" refers to the above ability to enter and that which is entered, along with the objective realm conditioned by dhyāna, as well as severing the cause of suffering, knowing suffering, and seeing the principle of the true truth—all of these are mental measures of discrimination within the nature of quiescent cessation. If one can awaken to this, then one attains ultimate liberation, obtaining it without obtaining anything.
