This explains the behavioral characteristics of the One Vehicle. Speaking of the “One Vehicle,” it is the One Buddha Vehicle, meaning the Mahāyāna Dharma ridden by the Tathāgata. This One Vehicle Dharma is not apart from a person’s one mind; what is called the wondrous Dharma is the mind itself. For the mind is endowed with the wondrous Dharma, not two and not different from what the buddhas realize. If one wishes to awaken to the path of the One Vehicle, one must investigate one’s own mind; hence it says “the vikalpa of grāhaka and grāhya.” It means understanding the deluded mind of grasped and grasper with respect to faculties and dust-objects, revealing the real right within the false, and abiding in reality as it is; hence it says, “one does not give rise to vikalpa in the state of reality as it is.” Yet this path of awakening of the One Vehicle can only be thoroughly realized between buddha and buddha; hence it says it cannot be obtained by other tīrthikas and so forth.
