'Just as eyes with cataracts look' and so forth clarifies the difference between the perverse and the correct. Cataracted eyes and hanging hairs have both been seen in the earlier commentary, analogizing what is nonexistent appearing as existent. The 'three existences' are the three realms; it means the three existences are fundamentally nonexistent, appearing only through vikalpa, hence it is said, 'Designations are set up regarding the three existences, yet there is no svabhāva of entities.' 'Designations' means establishment; because there is establishment through vikalpa, the Tathāgata sets up verbal teachings to transform them, as in what is called 'only with provisional names guiding sentient beings.' Sentient beings do not understand, and conversely give rise to conceptual discrimination regarding verbal teachings, agitating and confusing their minds and consciousnesses, hence it is said, 'the mind is confused, extremely agitated and trembling.' Only bodhisattvas are able to be free from this fault and transcend the three existences.
