「不令菩薩摩訶薩不覺自共相，不善七地，墮外道邪徑，故立地次第。大慧！彼實無有若生若滅，除自心現量，所謂地次第相續及三界種種行，愚夫所不覺。愚夫所不覺者，謂我及諸佛說地次第相續，及說三界種種行。」

"In order not to let bodhisattva-mahāsattvas be unaware of svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa, be unskillful regarding the seven stages, and fall into the evil paths of the tīrthikas, I establish the succession of the stages. Mahāmati, in reality there is neither arising nor ceasing apart from cittadṛśyamātra; so-called succession of stages and the various practices of the three realms are not perceived by fools. That which fools do not perceive is that I and the Buddhas speak of the succession of stages and speak of the various practices of the three realms."
