4.129

不令菩薩等者，佛正恐菩薩不善了知自相共相，不知諸地次第，墮於外道邪徑，故如是以說地位次第也。又告云彼實無有生滅，諸地次第、三界往還，一切皆是自心所現，但諸凡愚不能了知。以不知故，我及諸佛為如是說。

'In order not to let bodhisattvas' and so forth means that the Buddha precisely feared that bodhisattvas would not skillfully understand svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa, would not know the succession of stages, and would fall into the evil paths of the tīrthikas; therefore, he expounds the succession of stages in this manner. Furthermore, he declares that in reality there is no arising or ceasing; the succession of stages and transmigrating in the three realms are all appearances of one's own mind, but ordinary fools cannot understand this. Because they do not know, I and the Buddhas speak in this way.
