Although the five dharmas and the rest were explained above, they were not yet distinguished with reference to the stages to show how one enters all Buddha-dharmas up to the Tathāgata stage; hence he requested it again. In the response, he first generally indicates the aspects of delusion and awakening regarding the five dharmas: if practitioners enter them, the five dharmas are all aspects of awakening, hence he says 'if practitioners', etc. If on the contrary one does not awaken, then the five dharmas are all aspects of delusion, hence he says 'failing to awaken to those five dharmas', etc. From this it is known that dharmas have no inherent nature of their own; delusion and awakening depend on the person. This is just a general presentation; the characteristics of entering and the rest are fully seen in the subsequent text.
