4.201

此一節言恒沙無有限量者，喻如來光明無量，普照一切。言無異沙者，喻如來離分段、變易二種生死，以有漏、無漏因緣皆斷故也。

This passage's statement that the Ganges sands are limitless illustrates that the Tathāgata's light is immeasurable, universally illuminating all. The statement that there are no different sands illustrates that the Tathāgata is free from the two kinds of saṃsāra—delimited and transformative—because both contaminated and uncontaminated causes and conditions are severed.
