4.72

Third, because the two svabhāvas of existence and nonexistence cannot be apprehended, both internal and external are forgotten. Lacking external svabhāva is forgetting the external; lacking apprehension by the mind is forgetting the internal. Once internal and external are forgotten, views of identity, difference, and so forth are severed. Such non-arising is itself the lack of svabhāva; lacking svabhāva, it is empty; and emptiness also cannot be apprehended, hence it is said, 'it is not on account of emptiness that emptiness is taught.' Emptiness is non-arising, hence he also says, 'on account of non-arising that emptiness is taught.'
