1.12

'The mind of the Buddhas' speech' is the mind-dharma spoken by all Buddhas. Now, the Dharma gates expounded in the sūtra are roughly four: namely, the five dharmas, the three svabhāvas, the eight consciousnesses, and the two kinds of selflessness. The reason why 'mind' alone is spoken of is that these four Dharma gates are the main outline of the whole sūtra and the essence of investigating the mind. As the Ru lengqie jing states: 'The many wondrous Dharma gates of the five dharmas, svabhāvas, and so forth are the realm of entering one's own mind for all Buddhas and bodhisattvas, free from the marks of practice, according with true reality; they are the mind taught by all Buddhas.'
