The Buddha told Mahāmati: "It is not through the causes and conditions of all the tīrthikas that the eternal and inconceivable is attained. Why is this? The eternal and inconceivable of all the tīrthikas is not accomplished through svalakṣaṇa. If the eternal and inconceivable is not accomplished through svalakṣaṇa, through what cause is the eternal and inconceivable manifested? Furthermore, Mahāmati, if the inconceivable were accomplished through svalakṣaṇa, it should be permanent. Because of the causal mark of a creator, the eternal and inconceivable is not established."
