At that time, the World-Honoured One again addressed the Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Mahāmati: "Mahāmati, emptiness, non-arising, non-duality, and the mark of being free from svabhāva universally enter into all the sūtras of all Buddhas; wherever there is a scripture, it expounds this meaning. All the sūtras follow the desires of sentient beings' minds; therefore they discriminatively explain and reveal this meaning, yet the truth does not reside in verbal explanations. Just as the thirst-craving of deer deludes the herd, so that the deer imagine and grasp at the nature of water in that appearance, yet there is no water there; even so, all the dharmas taught in all the sūtras are spoken to cause fools to give rise to joy, not because the real pratyātmāryajñāna resides in verbal explanations. Therefore, you should rely on the meaning and not cling to verbal explanations."
