"Furthermore, Mahāmati, foolish ordinary persons are turned around by beginningless, false, evil, and deviant discriminations; when they are turned around, they do not skillfully understand the mastery of one's own tenet (siddhāntanaya) and the mastery of teaching (deśanānaya). Because they cling to the external natures and marks appearing from their own mind, and cling to provisional teachings, they do not skillfully distinguish the pure marks of mastery that transcend the catuṣkoṭi in their own tenet." Mahāmati said to the Buddha: "It is truly as the Honoured One teaches. We only pray that the World-Honoured One will explain for me the mastery of teaching and the mastery of one's own tenet, so that I and the other bodhisattva-mahāsattvas may become skilled in these two masteries, and future ordinary persons, śrāvakas, and pratyekabuddhas will not find any flaw in us."
