Regarding 'the nonexistence of all dharmas,' and so forth, the Ru Lengqie says: 'Causing them to know that all dharmas are the appearances of their own minds, without external realms, free from the two kinds of vikalpa of preaching and that which is preached.' Then he admonishes learners, saying: 'One should rely on the meaning and not rely on the letters.' If one relies on letters, it damages the meaning; how could one enable others to gain benefit? Regarding 'falling into the continuum of pernicious views,' and so forth: this means that one continually clings to speech and preaches to others, which is failing to skillfully understand all the teachings, stages, abidings, and marks of cause and effect, as well as sections, passages, and the meaning of sentences. If one skillfully understands these various meanings, one will be able to delight in signlessness and cause all sentient beings to abide peacefully in the equal Mahāyāna.
