"Mahāmati, one who embraces the Mahāyāna embraces the Buddhas, bodhisattvas, pratyekabuddhas, and śrāvakas. One who embraces the Buddhas, bodhisattvas, pratyekabuddhas, and śrāvakas embraces all sentient beings. One who embraces all sentient beings embraces the true Dharma. One who embraces the true Dharma ensures that the lineage of the Buddha is not severed. When the lineage of the Buddha is not severed, one can understand and attain the supreme entering-place. Knowing and attaining the supreme entering-place, the bodhisattva-mahāsattva is constantly able to manifest apparitional births, establish the Mahāyāna, manifest various forms and bodily images through the ten powers of mastery, thoroughly comprehend the species, hopes, and afflictions of sentient beings, and preach the Dharma in accordance with reality. 'In accordance with reality' means without difference; 'in accordance with reality' means the mark of neither coming nor going, the cessation of all falsity—this is called 'in accordance with reality.' Mahāmati, a good man or good woman should not embrace adherence according to the literal word, because the real is free from letters."
